Boys Don't Cry (1999): True story of a young trans man killed in Nebraska
ReplyDeleteBut I'm A Cheerleader (1999): Lesbian director Jamie Babbit explored femininity, female sexuality, and efforts to "de-gay" people.
Transamerica (2005): A trans woman discovers she has a teenage son who is living alone in New York. Criticized for for using a not trans actress, and relying on tropes. On the upside, it is seen as mainstream, and a way for people not familiar with transgender issues to get some insight and perspective.
